The doctors include the Chief Medical Director, CMD, of the hospital, Akinwumi Akinloye; the immediate past CMD, Sunday Sajo, and three nurses. The development sparked off protest by nurses in the hospital, crippling activities for hours until the Permanent Secretary of the Hospital Management Board, Dr. Niran Ikuomola, intervened.
It was gathered that the patient, about two weeks ago, voluntarily walked to the police station and told the Police detective that he was one of those who murdered the daughter of the state’s former Deputy Governor, Khadijat Oluboyo. Recall that the fiancée of the deceased, Adeyemi Alao, is standing trial over the murder while a native doctor has been declared wanted.
It was learned that trouble started at about 9p.m inside the psychiatric hospital when Olawale became aggressive on the bed, and some of the nurses tried to administer injection on him.
One of the nurses, who pleaded not to be named, said Olawale became charged and over-powered everyone inside the hospital, as he began to destroy medical facilities.
Olawale reportedly stabbed one of the nurses, beat up Dr. Akinloye until he fainted and inflicted injuries on Dr. Sajo. Eyewitness told Vanguard that the two doctors were rescued from the grip of the patient by another patient after other staff members fled the scene.
